As part of Always Moving: A Performance Laboratory in Several Parts, a month of performance and art happenings at Gertrude Contemporary, Danae Valenza and Speakeasy Cinema present a reimagining of silent cinema.

We’ve invited several musicians from all facets of the local music scene to rescore the experimental visions of some seminal filmmakers. Using violins, voices, synths and their dab drumming hands, they have reinterpreted the phenomenal worlds created by filmmakers such as Maya Deren, Kurt Kren and Peter Tscherkassky, lending a contemporary entry point to works that are as extraordinary as they are obscure. The results are nothing short of alchemic.
